No selective prosecution in Ismail Sabri case, says Azam Baki

PUTRAJAYA: The investigation into former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is not a case of selective prosecution, says the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“Do you think it is selective? I will return the question to you. I don’t think so. I always maintain that we investigate in a professional and fair manner,” said MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

“We act on our own based on information and evidence,” said Azam at a press conference on the matter at the MACC HQ on Monday (March 3).

Prior to this, the MACC said that it will summon former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob again to assist in investigations regarding several corruption and money laundering cases.

According to sources, MACC had taken the statement of the Bera MP last week.

"This is based on the latest information and intelligence received. MACC has called and interviewed him (Ismail Sabri) for about five hours to assist in the investigation. MACC does not rule out the possibility of summoning him again, but it will depend on time and circumstances, especially his health," reported Sinar Harian on Saturday (March 1).

Previously, four former officials, including two individuals with the title 'Datuk,' who are linked to Ismail Sabri, were remanded by the MACC on February 21, on suspicion of being involved in corruption.
