MACC to call Ismail Sabri for statement on Wednesday

PUTRAJAYA: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be called to give a statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Wednesday (March 5).

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed this at a press conference at the MACC headquarters.

He added that the session would be conducted based on the former Prime Minister’s health.

"Following this, the MACC will record additional statements from Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri based on the condition of his health. It is expected that the session will be conducted this Wednesday,” said Azam.

The statement recording will be on his asset declaration and the cases currently being investigated," he added.

This comes after Azam said that Ismail Sabri is a suspect in an ongoing Malaysian MACC investigation.

“In this matter I can say that he is a suspect in this case. Firstly, asset declarations have been required as per Section 36 of the MACC Act," said Azam.

“Secondly, money was found with links to him. We will need his statement on the discovery,” he added.

Prior to this, the MACC said that it would summon former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob again to assist in investigations regarding several corruption and money laundering cases.

According to sources, MACC had taken the statement of the Bera MP last week.

"This is based on the latest information and intelligence received. MACC has called and interviewed him (Ismail Sabri) for about five hours to assist in the investigation. MACC does not rule out the possibility of summoning him again, but it will depend on time and circumstances, especially his health," reported Sinar Harian on Saturday (March 1).

Previously, four former officials, including two individuals with the title 'Datuk,' who are linked to Ismail Sabri, were remanded by the MACC on February 21, on suspicion of being involved in corruption.
