The upgrading of Pasar Bandar Country Homes Rawang has given the wet market a new lease of life.

The three-month project to address major issues such as water leakage and poor electricity connections was recently completed at a cost of RM372,000 with an allocation from Local Government Development Ministry.

Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said works included the installation of a new roof, upgrading of toilets and a fresh coat of paint.

The market’s vicinity and parking area had also been repaved with new asphalt premix.

“Several minor issues will be addressed in the coming weeks, which will then be followed by installation of a new water pump and tank that cost RM40,000, allocated by Selayang MP William Leong from his constituency funds,” said Chua during a visit to the market.

The perimeter of the market had also been upgraded with a new anti-climb fence, following break-ins where traders’ merchandise and equipment were stolen.

Chua said Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) would also look into increased lighting and if necessary, closed-circuit television cameras.

Fruit seller Nancy Nga, 58, said the refurbishment was like getting a fresh start.

“It has made our life a bit more comfortable and improved the overall ambiance.

“The new fence also makes us feel safer,” she said.

Also present were MPS Property Valuation and Management and Engineering department representatives, MPS Zone 17 councillor P. Mariammal and Kampung Sungai Bakau village head Datuk Paul Cha. — By CY LEE
