A MAJOR pipe replacement project is underway in Bandar Country Homes in Rawang, Selangor, to solve long-standing water issues.

The move was expected to finally resolve decades of frequent water supply disruptions caused by ageing infrastructure, said Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat.

The project, being carried out by Air Selangor, is focused on replacing pipes that have been in place for three to four decades – the primary cause of recurring bursts and outages.

Works are expected to be completed by next June.

“Our goal is to provide reliable water service for residents by replacing these ageing pipes and ensuring that the basic needs of the community are met effectively,” said Chua.

Speaking during a site visit to Bandar Country Homes, he said the initial phase of the project targeted four key hotspot areas that have been facing for water issues – Phases 3, 4, 12 and 13.

Phases 3 and 4 have been allocated RM7.2mil for pipe replacement along a 6.2km stretch.

Similarly, Phases 12 and 13 have also been allocated RM7.2mil for works covering another 6.2km stretch.

Chua said Air Selangor has selected those specific areas based on comprehensive data and evidence.

Air Selangor said residents would be briefed about traffic adjustments necessary throughout the duration of the project.

On a state-wide level, Chua added, the government aimed to replace approximately 300km of pipes by the end of this year.
