ONE of South Korea’s oldest traditional rice wine brands − Ji Pyeong Makgeolli − is now available in Malaysia through food and beverage company Luen Heng F&B Sdn Bhd (LHFB).
Makgeolli is a lightly filtered South Korean rice wine known for its distinctive cloudy appearance, creamy texture and smooth flavour profile.
Two varieties have entered the market – Ji Pyeong Makgeolli Fresh brewed with 100% South Korean rice, and Ji Pyeong Makgeolli Chestnut made with South Korean chestnuts, offering a nutty finish.
Speaking at the product launch in Petaling Jaya, LHFB commercial director Sean Soh said Ji Pyeong Makgeolli combined centuries of brewing heritage with a modern style that appealed to consumers today.
“It is very easy to drink and great for when it is hot like today but the sun’s down, so you’ll notice a big cool change,” he said.
Also present at the event were LHFB managing director Datuk Kenneth Soh and Ji Pyeong Brewery global sales team manager Kam Muil.

During the launch, Kam led guests through a tasting session, sharing insights into the craftsmanship, history and unique characteristics of the two varieties.
Ji Pyeong Makgeolli will be available at selected restaurants, retail outlets and distribution partners nationwide.
According to LHFB, Ji Pyeong Brewery was established in 1925 in Yangpyeong, South Korea.
Over the past century, it has grown to become South Korea’s largest producer, accounting for roughly 20% of the country’s total makgeolli production.
The brewery distributes its products through more than 200 distributors and supplies over 30,000 retail outlets across South Korea.
Its original facility in Yangpyeong is designated an official cultural heritage site in recognition of its historical significance.
