HOMEOWNERS in Klang, Selangor, can receive assessment tax rebates of up to RM900 for adopting eco-friendly practices this year.
Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said eligible initiatives included installation of solar panels, recycling and use of electric vehicles.
“This is the first time Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) is introducing this initiative.
“The city council will assess these eco-friendly steps carried out from January to December 2026.
“After the evaluation, the ratepayer will enjoy the rebate for their 2027 assessment,” he said after chairing MBDK’s full board meeting at Bangunan Sultan Alam Shah in Jalan Perbandaran, Klang.
Abd Hamid said applicants must ensure their residence was located within MBDK’s administrative jurisdiction.
“They must not have outstanding assessment tax arrears and must have all necessary documents for verification.
“Klang homeowners who have adopted green practices can earn the one-off tax rebate, which is expected to advance the city council’s push toward a sustainable and low-carbon smart city.”
The mayor said MBDK would also launch a lucky draw campaign from Nov 1 until Dec 31 to reward early assessment tax payments and full arrears clearance made via the iPay MBDK portal.
Eligible ratepayers stand to win 65 major prizes including a Honda Vario motorcycle, EV scooters, smartphones and gold bars.
On another matter, Abd Hamid said the public can submit feedback on the second schedule environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in Klang.
“The EIA report is open for inspection until Nov 17, and is available at MBDK headquarters.
“It is the ECRL’s second schedule EIA report for the proposed Section D that stretches from Jalan Kastam to Northport and Westport, Port Klang.
“Members of the public can submit their views, comments or constructive feedback throughout the exhibition period.
“I urge people to take part as it helps towards sustainable development and environmental conservation,” he added.
Abd Hamid said the rail network would improve connectivity between the east and west coasts, shorten travel times and provide an alternative to long-distance road travel.
“Beyond passenger convenience, the ECRL can stimulate domestic and international tourism.
“Its freight connections can improve the movement of goods too, strengthen supply chains and expand market access for manufacturers and agricultural producers,” he said.
On MBDK’s upcoming third anniversary of city status on Nov 23, Abd Hamid said the city council was planning a month-long programme of events.
“Among them are a community thanksgiving prayer at Masjid Kampung Raja Uda, the Royal Klang Marathon and a riverside festival at Pengkalan Batu,” he said.
