COMMERCIAL premises and private residences in Klang, Selangor, have been urged to display the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with National Day.
Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said this was a way to show love and pride for the nation.
“We want all Malaysians to demonstrate their patriotism and foster stronger community spirit as we celebrate Merdeka with the theme, ‘Malaysia Madani, Kesejahteraan Dinikmati’,” he said during the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) full board meeting.
Abd Hamid added that continuous efforts must be undertaken to foster patriotism among the people.
He said this included the campaign to fly the national flag, which was a symbol of Malaysia’s independence and sovereignty.
“We need to sow the seeds of patriotism at an early age among children and produce a generation who are committed to preserving the nation’s independence.”
He said displaying the national flag was more than a physical symbol as it was a reflection of love for the nation and a mark of pride and loyalty to the country.
“MBDK would like to encourage homeowners to enhance the appearance of their surroundings by turning on the porch lights and ensuring the frontage of their premises are kept clean.”
He reminded the public on the dos and don’ts when displaying the Jalur Gemilang.
“MBDK hopes all parties gives their full support, commitment and cooperation to fly the flag.”
Abd Hamid also reminded property owners to pay their assessment tax by Aug 31.
He said the city council had stopped issuing physical assessment tax bills since January this year.
Property owners can view and download their bills digitally via ipay.mbdk.gov.my for verification and payment purposes.
Payments made after Aug 31 will incur a RM20 penalty for each account.
Abd Hamid added that payment could also be done at selected malls throughout August.
“To assist and facilitate the public in reviewing and paying their assessment tax, MBDK will conduct an assessment tax payment campaign at selected malls every Saturday and Sunday during August.”
The venues include Aeon Bukit Tinggi on Aug 8 and 9 and at Aeon Bukit Raja on Aug 15 and 16, Aug 22 and 23 and Aug 29 and 30.
Abd Hamid also said MBDK was offering a reduction in parking compounds to as low as RM15 from Aug 17 to Sept 16.
“Motorists are advised to settle their payments for various traffic offences before stricter action is taken, including prosecution in court.”
However, Abd Hamid said compounds for offences such as parking in bays meant for disabled motorists were not included.
“The offence of obstructing or causing obstruction to any parking place or space is also not included in this campaign.”
