ON-GROUND inspections and mitigation efforts are being intensified in Taman Bukit Permai, Ampang in Selangor, following a minor rockfall incident earlier this week.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) said preventive measures, including clearing vegetation on rock slopes and installing protective netting, were ongoing to reduce the risk of future incidents.

MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari said most high-risk areas have been secured with protective netting or slope stabilisation works.

“This area was formerly a quarry site and has many exposed rock slopes.

“The mitigation measures carried out over the past 10 years have produced positive results, with fewer and less severe incidents.

“MPAJ will continue monitoring these areas and urges the public to report any signs of potential danger,” he said after chairing the council’s full board meeting at Menara MPAJ in Ampang, yesterday.

Hasrolnizam said the local council allocated about RM1mil annually for slope maintenance.

This is supplemented by additional funding from the state and Federal Government.

On July 28, MPAJ said investigations found that damaged protective netting on a rock slope had allowed several small boulders to break loose and fall onto Jalan Bukit Permai.

No injuries or property damage were reported.

On another matter, Hasrolnizam said MPAJ’s Special Revenue Squad had begun its sixth enforcement operation to recover outstanding assessment tax since the unit was established in 2023.

The squad, comprising 107 council staff, is targeting 6,250 assessment tax accounts with total arrears of RM15.6mil between May and July this year.

As of June 30, the municipal council has collected RM2.33mil, representing 14.95% of the outstanding amount.

Hasrolnizam expressed hope that the enforcement exercise would improve collection rates and reduce assessment tax arrears across the municipality.
