12 solar street lamps boost security at Taman Sejahtera flats in KL

Residents of Taman Sejahtera flats in Kuala Lumpur can now breathe a sigh of relief following installation of 12 solar-powered street lamps to enhance security in the neighbourhood.

The flats’ management corporation chairman Hafizuddin Sulaiman hopes the new street lamps will help deter theft and vandalism.

“We frequently receive complaints of smashed car windows and the occasional scuffle.

“With the area now brightly lit, we expect significant reduction in crime and antisocial behaviour.”

Hafizuddin said he had requested additional lighting near the field adjacent to the four-storey residential blocks.

“There were instances of individuals vaping and even using drugs in the dark.

“Now, they are under closer scrutiny,” he added.

The RM62,585 project was funded by the Implementation Coordination Unit under the Segambut parliamentary allocation.

At a press conference, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh’s political secretary Yap Yee Vonne said a site visit took place in February.

“By April, all 12 lamps were installed and fully operational,” she said.

Residents Association chairman Zulkhairie Sabirudin said he had identified several remaining “blind spots” to Yeoh’s office.

“There are additional areas lacking visibility at night and we hope to get more street lamps.

“We are grateful to the MP’s office, as this project benefits residents of the four blocks, which comprise a total of 400 units,” he said.
