Man arrested for parang attack on wife over TV volume

KOTA TINGGI: Police have arrested a man after he allegedly slashed his wife with a parang following an argument over the television volume at their home in Taman Desa Sejahtera here.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said police received information from the public at about 9.30pm on Saturday (Sept 5) regarding an injured woman bleeding at the residence.

"Following the report, police dispatched a team to the scene and arrested the local man, who is the victim’s husband," Supt. Yusof said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 6).

Initial investigations revealed that a misunderstanding erupted between the couple, both in their 70s, after the wife turned up the volume on the television. The suspect, who was reportedly intoxicated, reacted by attacking her with a parang.

The victim sustained a 1 cm slash wound on her right arm. She was transported to Kota Tinggi Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Police have seized the weapon and opened an investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
