A CHARITY sale will be held on Sept 16 to raise funds for the underprivileged in Banting, Selangor.
Hosted by The Salvation Army Banting, the sale at Dewan Orang Ramai Sungai Manggis will be from 8.30am until 2.30pm.
The public can lend their support by buying items from over 20 stalls.
There will also be a free health screening by the National Cancer Society Malaysia.
The blood transfusion unit from Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang (HTAR) will be there to accept blood donations.
“We hope that with the proceeds from the sale, the work of The Salvation Army in Banting can be expanded and help more underprivileged people,” said The Salvation Army Banting corps officer Lieutenant Uthayasoorian Chellamuthu.
The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in London, England, to work among the poor. In 1938 it started work in Penang.
The branch in Banting was founded in 1995 to reach out to the Tamil-speaking community.
Several years later, a learning centre was established to provide after-school care for more than 50 children from low-income families.
The children are provided with meals, homework guidance and tuition to help them improve in their studies.
The organisation also provides food parcels to about 10 families living under the poverty line.
Due to rising costs of living, there is now an increase in requests from marginalised communities.
