Club hopes to raise RM180,000 for accident victim’s surgery and treatment

LIONS Club of Skudai in Johor is planning to hold a charity event this Saturday to raise funds for a 22-year-old hit-and-run accident victim whose mobility has been severely affected.

Club president Thiavasundari Arumugam said Sametha Krishna R. Saravanan suffered multiple injuries in an accident on Feb 20, 2025, in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.

“Since then, she has undergone surgeries, medical treatment and intensive rehabilitation in Malaysia and India.

“Her mobility remains significantly affected and she is unable to walk without support,” she said.

Thiavasundari added that Sametha’s family was unable to cope with the high medical bills as her father worked as a security guard while taking on additional jobs to support the family.

Sametha’s mother is a housewife taking care of her alongside five other children.

Sametha, seen in a wheelchair with father R. Saravanan Raju, is in need of further surgery, specialist treatment, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Despite relying on a wheelchair and undergoing prolonged treatment, Sametha continued her studies online while working towards her goal of regaining her mobility and walking independently, Thiavasundari said.

The club hopes to raise RM180,000 to fund Sametha’s surgery in India, continue specialist treatment, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

The charity event, “Symphony of Hope 2026 – A Charity Musical Evening of Hope and Humanity”, will be held at Nova Grand Hall in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, Johor Baru, on Sept 12. The programme starts at 6.30pm.

Thiavasundari said the event would feature Indian cultural performances and presentations recognising individuals who had contributed to society.

Those who wish to donate can contribute to the Lions Club of Skudai via its Public Bank account 3132056805.
