QuickCheck: Did a S'gor convenience store worker discover a hidden camera in a toilet?

Finding a hidden camera or smartphone recording people in a toilet is an unnerving experience, as it is an intrusion into a person's privacy.

As such, any news of this nature would rapidly go viral - especially if it comes with a video of the person in question caught in the act of planting the camera.

Recently, it was claimed that a female employee of a convenience store in Klang, Selangor was the victim of such a person and that the person who planted the smartphone in question was in fact her colleague.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

This incident was confirmed in a press release issued by North Klang OCPD Asst Comm S. Vijaya Rao, who said that it happened in early April.

He said that a police report was received at 4.39pm on April 2, adding that an 18-year-old woman working as a shop assistant at a Taman Meru Indah, Meru, Klang convenience store had been spied on by a foreign worker there.

"The suspect was caught by the public before being handed to the police, and on April 18, he was charged with an offence under Section 509 and 511 of the Penal Code," added ACP Vijaya Rao.

Section 509 makes it an offence to outrage a person's modesty, and Section 511 makes it a crime to attempt to commit an offence even if the attempt is unsuccessful.
