EVERY year without fail, millions of Malaysians spend the weeks before the tax deadline convincing themselves they still have plenty of time, before suddenly realising they absolutely do not.
If that describes your current situation, this story is for you. This Friday has been circled on calendars, shared in office group chats and quietly dreaded by procrastinators nationwide.
Is May 15 really the last day to submit your taxes in Malaysia?
Verdict:

TRUE
May 15 is indeed the final deadline, but it applies specifically to salaried individuals filing online, and it is worth knowing exactly where you stand before assuming you are covered.
The original deadline for salaried individuals filing Form BE, which covers those with employment income only and no business income, was April 30.
The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), granted a 15-day extension for e-filing submissions, pushing the final deadline to May 15.
For those who earn business income and file Form B, the deadline was May 1, meaning it has already passed.
LHDN confirmed on its official website that May 15 applied to salaried individuals filing for the Year of Assessment 2025 via the MyTax portal at mytax.hasil.gov.my.
It is also worth noting that manual filing was no longer accepted, meaning all submissions must be done online through MyTax.
For first-time filers who have not yet registered and activated their digital certificate, time was running very short.
LHDN advised taxpayers to review all relevant documents before submitting, including income statements, receipts and supporting records, and to complete their return forms carefully to ensure submissions were accurate and complete.
Taxpayers who missed the May 15 deadline face penalties under the Income Tax Act 1967, so those who have not yet filed were strongly encouraged to do so before midnight on Friday.
For any queries, LHDN could be contacted through its official portal at hasil.gov.my.
