QuickCheck: Are housewives, single mothers and senior citizens getting RM300 in e-wallet aid?

FREE money is always a tempting headline, and scammers know it.

A post circulating on Threads claimed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had approved RM300 in e-wallet assistance for housewives, single mothers and senior citizens, with applications supposedly open from May 7 to May 9.

But is the government actually offering RM300 in e-wallet aid to housewives, single mothers and senior citizens?

Verdict:

FALSE

The Finance Ministry has categorically denied the claim, stating that the viral post circulating on Threads was false.

The fake post, published by an account called @bantuan_ewalletmalaysia1, claimed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had approved RM300 in e-wallet assistance for housewives, single mothers and senior citizens, with a three-day application window opening May 7.

The post was designed to mimic the appearance of a news report from a legitimate portal, lending it a veneer of credibility.

The Finance Ministry also warned the public to remain vigilant and not be easily deceived by the spread of false news and advised the public to follow the ministry's official social media channels to obtain current and verified information.
