Screenshots from the CCTV footage that went viral showing the victim being approached and attacked for "looking" at the suspect.

DINING out should be a relaxing experience, and most Malaysians know the unspoken rule of not staring at strangers across a restaurant.

But a viral CCTV video showing three men attacking a lone diner at a Kepong restaurant has left many asking what on earth could have provoked such a violent response.

Was a man really beaten up simply for looking at someone the wrong way at a restaurant in Kepong?

Verdict:

TRUE

A man was attacked by three individuals at a restaurant in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (May 7) after allegedly glancing in the direction of the suspects, with CCTV footage of the assault going viral on social media.

Sentul OCPD ACP Basri Sagoni said the fight broke out after the victim, who was eating at the restaurant, glanced towards the suspects.

"The suspect, who was drunk and unhappy at being looked at, then proceeded to attack the victim," he said in a statement on Monday (May 10).

The victim sustained injuries in the attack, which involved three individuals, according to the viral CCTV footage.

The suspect has since been arrested and remanded until Thursday (May 13) to assist with investigations, Basri said, adding that the case remains under active investigation.
