QuickCheck: Did a woman fall onto the tracks at Gombak LRT station?


A PHOTO showing a woman lying on the tracks at Gombak LRT station began circulating on Threads on Thursday (Aug 13) morning and has quickly been gaining traction on social media.

The image showed her stretched out on the rail line which left netizens online scrambling to work out what had happened.

Did a passenger really fall onto the tracks at Gombak Station?

Rapid KL confirmed that a passenger, believed to have fainted, fell onto the tracks at Gombak Station in an incident at 9.05am on Thursday.

The rail operator said its Platform Intrusion Emergency Stop (PIES) system was activated immediately after the incident, and power to the tracks was cut off temporarily as a safety precaution.

"The passenger involved was successfully assisted off the track area and taken to the emergency room while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

"The passenger was later taken to Hospital Tawakal Kuala Lumpur for further examination and treatment," Rapid KL said in a statement.

Earlier that morning, a photo purportedly showing a woman who had fallen onto the tracks at Gombak LRT station went viral on social media.

The photo, which showed the woman lying on the tracks, was uploaded by a user on the platform Threads.

Rapid KL said further checks found the tracks were in a safe condition, and train operations resumed at 9.12am.

"Passengers are advised to obtain the latest updates through Rapid KL's official social media channels," it said.
