IN AN emergency, seconds can make a difference between life and death.
A video has gone viral showing just such a situation. In the video, a woman can be seen rushing to the aid of another woman who suddenly started choking while eating at what looks to be a cafeteria.
Comments on the video claim that the life-saver is an off-duty nurse who stepped in to offer first aid at an Ipoh hospita.
Is this true?
VERDICT:

TRUE
Pantai Hospital Ipoh confirmed the incident, saying that it had happened on May 4 and the life-saver was a nurse who had just finished a night shift.
In a video titled “Off Duty, but Never Off Responsibility” posted online by the hospital, it said that the 2B staff nurse Siti Maisyura had just finished her night shift and was waiting for her son’s follow-up appointment near a cafe in the hospital premises when the emergency unfolded.
In a short statement attached to the video posted, the hospital said although she was off duty and dressed casually, she immediately reacted when a nearby woman suddenly began choking and struggling to breathe, triggering panic among family members.
“Without hesitation, Siti Maisyura rushed forward and applied her clinical training, performing the Heimlich manoeuvre to clear the obstruction.
“Within moments, the object was dislodged and the woman regained her ability to breathe,” added the statement.
The hospital said her swift action underscored the impact of medical training beyond hospital wards, turning an ordinary waiting area into the scene of a potentially life-saving intervention.
It said the incident also reflected the spirit of the 2026 International Nurses Day theme by the International Council of Nurses: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
