PETALING JAYA: In a heartbreaking account, 66-year-old Jameyah Rabani recalled the final moments with her granddaughter, 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, who was found covered in blood inside a school hall in Yong Peng on Saturday afternoon (Oct 4), believed to have been murdered.
"She managed to look at my face while I held her before she passed away forever," she told Sinar Harian on.
Jameyah said the search began around 5.30pm when two of Irene Sofiya’s schoolmates came to her house inquiring about her whereabouts. The friends grew concerned after noticing that her motorcycle was still parked at the school while she was nowhere to be found.
Accompanied by her eldest daughter, Siti Nur Faeza, 45, Jameyah went with the students to search the school compound, located three kilometres away.
"We searched around the school grounds, and her friends helped look for her before one of them found Fiya inside the school hall," Jameyah said when met at her home in Kampung Parit Selamat on Saturday night. "I heard her friend scream for me to hurry over because there was so much blood."
Upon arriving at the scene, Jameyah found her granddaughter weakly responding when her name was called, though she was critically injured and bleeding heavily.
"I held her, called out 'Fiya', and recited Islamic prayers for her. She was covered in blood," Jameyah said. "She looked at my face one last time before her body went limp and she stopped moving."
Jameyah expressed deep sorrow over the brutal attack occurring within the school grounds, having raised Irene Sofiya with devotion since the teenager was nine years old following her mother's death from liver cancer.
Her grandfather, Khyar Abas, 69, shared that his last interaction with Irene Sofiya was during breakfast on Saturday morning, when she mentioned having an online class at 11am followed by additional tuition classes at school at 2pm.
"The three of us have lived together since she was nine," Khyar said. "She was a studious girl who never gave us any trouble."
