Two women burnt to death in car-lorry collision in Yong Peng


BATU PAHAT: Two 22-year-old women were burnt to death when their car caught fire following a collision with a lorry at Batu 1, Jalan Yong Peng-Ayer Hitam, on Friday (Oct 9) afternoon.

The victims were identified as the driver of a hatchback, Siti Nur Batrisya Mohd Khalid, and her front seat passenger, Siti Nurmaisarah Abd Jalil.

Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Shamin Mohamed Salikin said they received an emergency call at 4.21pm, and a team arrived at the scene four minutes later.

He said when firefighters arrived, they found the car about 80% burnt, with both victims trapped in the driver and front passenger seats.

"The team carried out firefighting operations before extricating both victims using special equipment. They were pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical officers," he said in a statement.

Mohd Shamin said both victims were found burnt beyond recognition. Three men in their 30s in the lorry were uninjured.

The operation, involving 16 personnel from the Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Stations, ended at 6.38 pm.
