Yong Peng school murder: Suspect's remand extended by six days


BATU PAHAT: The remand of a 16-year-old boy suspected of murdering a female student at a school in Yong Peng has been extended by six days, from Saturday (Oct 10) until Oct 15.

The extension was granted by Magistrate Aimi Nawwar Mohamad Othman at the Magistrate's Court here on Friday (Oct 9).

The teenager had previously been remanded for six days from Oct 4 to assist in the investigation into the death of Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, 16.

The Form Four student, who was the suspect's classmate, was found unconscious and covered in blood in a school hall in Yong Peng at about 5.50pm on Oct 3. She was later pronounced dead.

Her body was sent to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) for a post-mortem examination.

Police have said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Irene Sofiya was buried at the Kampung Parit Arshad Muslim Cemetery last Sunday after the post-mortem was completed at HSNI. – Bernama
