BATU PAHAT: The dream of 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal to follow in her late mother’s footsteps and become a doctor came to a tragic end after she was found dead, believed to have been murdered, at a secondary school in Yong Peng on Saturday (Oct 3).
Speaking to Sinar Harian, her aunt, 45-year-old teacher Siti Nur Faeza Khyar, shared that "Fiya" had big ambitions and a deep passion for learning, hoping to become a public health doctor, just as her mother had.
"Fiya once asked me which type of doctor she should become. I suggested a gynaecologist, but she told me she wanted to be a public health doctor like her mother. She had big dreams and loved studying," Siti Nur Faeza said when met at Kampung Parit Selamat in Yong Peng on Saturday night.
Describing her niece as a quiet, hardworking, and dedicated top student, Siti Nur Faeza noted that Fiya frequently scored first or second place in her form and was considered one of the school’s bright prospects for achieving straight 9As.
"She was always focused on her studies, quiet, and never caused any trouble," she added.
Siti Nur Faeza expressed anguish over the terror and pain her niece must have endured during the fatal attack inside a dark school hall.
"The perpetrator's actions were extremely cruel. I cannot imagine what she went through in that dark hall, or the fear and pain she endured while waiting for us to find her," she said, calling on the police to conduct a swift investigation to ensure the killer faces full justice.
Fiya was an only child who lost her mother—a former doctor at Serdang Hospital—to liver cancer when she was just eight years old. Her father works as an engineer in Bangi.
