Prayer items factory in Rawang damaged in fire


 PETALING JAYA: A factory producing joss paper and other prayer items in Rawang was extensively damaged in a fire on Sunday (July 12) afternoon.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 1.01pm regarding the blaze at an industrial premises in Taman Industri Rawang.

"The first fire engine from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 1.07pm, about 6km from the station.

"The fire involved a Class B factory measuring approximately 200ft by 300ft (61m by 91m), with about 80% of the premises affected," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Ashrul Riezal said firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within 35 minutes of commencing firefighting operations.

He added that extinguishing works were still ongoing at the time of writing, with water supplied by two water tankers.

A total of 20 firefighters from the Rawang, Batu Arang, Bukit Sentosa, Selayang and Damansara fire stations were deployed to the scene.

No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
