Seven Bills, including FOI Bill, set to be tabled in Dewan Rakyat on July 13

PETALING JAYA: Seven Bills, including the long-awaited Freedom of Information Bill, are slated to be tabled for the first reading on Monday (July 13) as the Dewan Rakyat’s meeting enters its last week.

According to the order paper for July 13, the Freedom of Information Bill 2026 is one of the four Bills parked under the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

The proposed law had been one of the election pledges of Pakatan Harapan in 2018.

Penang and Selangor have already enacted their own state enactments on freedom of information.

Aside from that, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department is also expected to table the Admiralty Jurisdiction Bill 2026 and two amendment Bills.

The amendment Bills are the Witness Protection (Amendment) Bill 2026 and Courts of Judicature (Amendment) Bill 2026.

Another long-awaited Bill that will be tabled on Monday is the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry’s Social Work Profession Bill 2026.

Drafting of the Social Work Profession Bill commenced in 2010 and was tipped to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in 2024.

Groups have since said the delay in tabling the Bill is hindering the regulation of the profession and the development of the necessary manpower to support the sector.

The Communications Ministry will also table the Communications and Multimedia (Amendment) Bill 2026 and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (Amendment) Bill 2026.
