A NEW university campus slated to open in Rawang, Selangor, next year is expected to widen access to higher education in northern Klang Valley.

Gamuda Land and UCSI University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish the new campus within the 543ha Gamuda Gardens township.

The UCSI satellite campus is expected to be launched in January 2027, with students to benefit from other sports and recreational amenities within Gamuda Gardens.

The campus is designed to accommodate about 2,000 students and will have an initial built-up area of 66,000sq ft, including 45 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, indoor basketball courts as well as other learning and recreational facilities.

It will offer undergraduate programmes in business and management, creative arts, computer science as well as engineering including specialisations in electric vehicles and autonomous mobility.

Diploma and foundation programmes will also be available, with plans to expand the list of courses over time.

In the pipeline is the development of a permanent campus with a capacity of 6,000 students on a 2.43ha site within the township, slated for completion in 2031.

Gamuda Land chief executive officer Gim Teck Yew said the addition of UCSI University reflected the continued evolution of Gamuda Gardens as a mature and integrated township.

“Education has always been a key component of our master plan, alongside homes, parks, commercial offerings and community spaces.

“Integrating UCSI University creates a more complete township that supports long-term community growth and economic vitality,” he said during the MOU signing at the Gamuda Gardens Experience Gallery.

UCSI president and vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir said the upcoming campus would complement existing ones in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Bandar Springhill in Port Dickson and Bangladesh.

“We look forward to the launch of UCSI’s fifth campus and are glad to partner with Gamuda Land in this effort.

“Both parties recognise the need to provide quality higher education in Rawang and the Northern Klang Valley corridor.

“UCSI has always empowered local communities through accessible high-quality education.

“We look forward to achieving the same impact here and we will offer more programmes as the campus grows organically.”

She added that the announcement of UCSI’s fifth campus coincided with its 40th anniversary celebrations.

UCSI University stands as one of Asia’s leading private universities.

It is ranked in Asia’s top 30 and eighth in South-East Asia in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, while UCSI’s Institute of Music is ranked 24th worldwide in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for both music and the performing arts.

According to Gamuda Land, the collaboration builds on its ongoing partnership with leading Malaysian education providers, forming a clear pathway from K-12 to tertiary education.

The university will contribute to increased demand for retail, services and lifestyle offerings within the township.

Students and faculty will have direct access to Gardens Square and the upcoming Atrium retail-tainment development, strengthening the township’s commercial offerings and supporting day-to-day convenience.

Also present were UCSI Group founder and executive chairman Datuk Peter Ng, Gamuda Land chief operating officers Wong Siew Lee and Jess Teng, as well as UCSI Hotels Group chief executive officer Christopher Byran Ng.
