Missing Sipitang man found dead in forest, two friends detained

KOTA KINABALU: The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a man after going fishing and hunting at a forested area in Kg Takula, Sipitang, some 150km from here, has finally been solved with the discovery of a canvas-wrapped body.

Police were led to the body after detaining two of the man’s friends to facilitate investigations following his disappearance which was reported on July 8, after initially classifying the case under the usual missing person’s report.

Sipitang OCPD Supt Awang Anak Suand said the trio had gone fishing and hunting on July 3, but only the two friends returned on July 5.

“The victim’s family had waited for him to return and only lodged a report on July 8, after he failed to turn up home,” he said when contacted Sunday (July 12).

After interrogating the two friends, police found out that the victim had been shot, and in panic, the two men decided to just wrap the victim’s body in canvas and leave it in the forest.

“We also seized two home-made guns, or bakakuk, from the suspects,” Supt Awang said, adding that the case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“We will continue to investigate to find out what actually happened,” he said.
