PUTRAJAYA: The 2026 National Day Prime Minister's address scheduled to take place at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (Aug 30) will be moved to the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here due to the current haze.
The National Day and Malaysia Day 2026 celebration working committee from the Communications Ministry in a statement on Thursday (Aug 27) announced that the decision was made to ensure the safety, health and comfort of guests and the public.
"The relocation of the venue does not affect the content and spirit of the 2026 National Day celebration but is a responsible step to ensure that the event can be held in a more controlled and comfortable environment.
"The government will continue to monitor the haze situation and the development of air quality," the statement said.
Meanwhile, it added that decisions regarding the implementation of the parade in conjunction with the 2026 National Day celebration will be determined based on an assessment of the current situation as well as advice and views from the Health Ministry, the Environment Department and the Malaysian Meteorological Department. – Bernama
