SIMPANG RENGGAM: Nominations for all 56 state seats in the Johor election have gone smoothly, says caretaker Johor mentri besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Onn Hafiz also congratulated all candidates vying for seats in the election for keeping things harmonious.
"Today's session has gone smoothly. From the reports I have received so far, other areas are the same.
"We hope that the momentum continues until July 11.
"I wish all candidates the best and we should continue to campaign harmoniously over the next two weeks," he told reporters after submitting his nomination papers for the Machap state seat.
Earlier, returning officer Mohd Izzul Helmi Ahmad announced that the Machap seat will see a straight fight between Onn Hafiz and Pakatan Harapan candidate Nor Hafiz Roslan.
Asked whether he is confident of winning the straight fight, Onn Hafiz said anything can happen.
"Anything can happen in this election. We need to give it our all," he said.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad had said that the police had not received any reports of incidents during the nomination process.
He said 4,832 police officers and personnel were deployed to ensure it ran smoothly.
"Police have also approved 26 campaign permits statewide so far and expect more permits to be issued during the campaign period," he told reporters after observing the nomination process for the Puteri Wangsa seat at SMK Bandar Dato Onn here Saturday.
He reminded all political parties and candidates to campaign responsibly and comply with election laws and regulations.
Ab Rahaman also warned against any actions that could threaten public order, adding that the police are prepared to handle any situation during the campaign period.
The Election Commission has set July 7 for early voting and July 11 for polling day.
