Three police reports lodged over vandalised statues at Bukit Tinggi place of worship

BENTONG: Police have confirmed receiving three reports over an incident involving the alleged vandalism of statues at a non-Muslim place of worship in Bukit Tinggi here on Sunday (Aug 16), Sinar Harian reports.

Acting Pahang police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob told the Malay language daily that the three reports were lodged on Aug 16 at 1.51am, 2.32am and 4.35pm, respectively.

“The reports were lodged by three men — a 49-year-old security guard, a 45-year-old monk and another local resident aged 41.

“Police went to the scene, and initial investigations found that no CCTV cameras were installed at the temple and there were no independent witnesses who saw the incident take place,” he said in a statement Monday (Aug 17).

He said the case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

DCP Azry Akmar said police viewed the incident seriously and investigations were ongoing to identify the cause and those involved.

He advised the public not to speculate or spread information, particularly on social media, that could affect investigations or cause public concern.

“Any information related to this incident should be channelled to the police to assist investigations,” he said.
