MELAKA: The women's wing of PKR has called for optimal preparations for the Melaka state polls, urging members to stop lamenting over the defeats in the recent elections.
Its chief Fadhlina Sidek said the party must mobilise its best commanders for the upcoming state polls.
“Melaka is a very important state for us,” she said in her policy speech at the Wanita Keadilan congress here on Friday (Aug 14).
She said preparations must begin early in anticipation of state polls, including Sarawak.
She added that the recent election defeats, namely in Johor and Negri Sembilan, must be used as a motivation to strengthen the party’s election machinery.
“We are sad when we lose, we are angry, and that is why my call is for us to strengthen the organisation, strengthen our election machinery and reach out to the hearts of women across Malaysia.
“Beginning Monday… when we return from congress, we must restore our role at the grassroots, restore our role as women’s spokespersons and focus on women voters,” she said.
According to her, engagement with women should begin with everyday issues which are closely connected to families and communities.
“A woman’s kitchen is the most important place for political work. Start in the women’s kitchen.
"Ask them whether there is enough rice, sugar and salt. Ask how many times the children eat in a day,” she said.
The annual PKR congress, which began on Thursday (Aug 13), will end on Sunday (Aug 16).
