Johor polls: Tiram seat to see four-cornered fight

JOHOR BARU: The Tiram state seat will witness a four-cornered contest in the 16th Johor state election, with candidates from Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional and Bersama officially entering the race.

Barisan has fielded Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman of Umno, while Pakatan is represented by Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani of DAP.

Perikatan has named Khirul Muntanazar Ismail from PAS as its candidate, while Bersama will be represented by Dr Harith Fakhrudin Abdul Malek.

The list of candidates was announced by returning officer Ali Zainalabidin Syed Mohamed following the close of the nomination process at Dewan Raya Taman Pelangi Indah here on Saturday (June 27).

The contest is expected to draw close attention as the four political parties vie to secure the mixed seat.

Campaigning officially began after the nomination process concluded.

In the 2022 Johor state election, Barisan won the Tiram seat in a seven-cornered fight with a majority of 5,281 votes.

Johor's 56-seat state legislative assembly was dissolved on June 1.

Voters will cast their votes on July 11 after a two-week campaigning period, with early voting set for July 7.
