Govt fine-tuning Melaka police infrastructure projects

MELAKA: Tenders for the construction of the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters complex and the Tanjung Minyak police station are expected to open as early as February next year, says Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

He said both projects are currently being refined at the Value Assessment Lab under the Economy Ministry to enable the government to finalise the scope of work, project costs and other related matters.

“This value assessment study will be carried out in June, after which the next step will be taken – calling for tenders from qualified contractors.

“We hope construction of the Melaka Tengah headquarters and the Tanjung Minyak police station can begin by the middle of next year,” he said when met by reporters at a meet-and-greet session with police retirees and personnel from the Tanjung Minyak police station here yesterday.

Also present were state housing, local government, drainage, climate change and disaster management committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin and Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar.

Meanwhile, Rais, who is also Paya Rumput assemblyman, said the construction of the Tanjung Minyak police station must be expedited as the station currently has only 17 personnel to serve about 9,000 residents.

He said that the police-to- population ratio is low, especially as Paya Rumput is among the most densely populated areas in Melaka.

“With the construction of the Tanjung Minyak police station and the new Melaka Tengah complex, I am confident it will make life safer, more comfortable and harmonious for the people, especially those in the Paya Rumput constituency,” he said.

The Federal Government had previously planned to build a new Melaka Tengah police headquarters complex in Krubong on a 4.94ha site, with an allocation of approximately RM250mil.
