Two foreign workers injured as lift plunges seven floors in Melaka hotel

MELAKA: Two foreign workers carrying out repairs in a lift shaft have been seriously injured after a lift car fell on them from the seventh floor of a hotel on Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz here.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Deputy Fire Supt II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said the incident occurred while the victims, both 27-year-old Indian nationals, were carrying out repairs on the lift.

"The Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 11.55am on Wednesday (June 17), and two fire engines and eight personnel were deployed to the scene. "Both victims were trapped underneath the wreckage of the lift that had fallen from the seventh floor," he said in a statement.

He said firefighters took less than an hour to extricate both victims, who were seriously injured, and they were subsequently sent to the Melaka Hospital for treatment. – Bernama
