Baby thrown from car in Melaka crash, survives after landing on grass


MELAKA: A one-month-old baby boy who was thrown from a car during a crash here has survived after landing on a patch of grass.

According to acting Melaka Tengah OCPD Supt Halim Abas, the incident occurred at about 10pm on Monday (June 1), involving two vehicles along Lebuh Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin in Balai Panjang.

He said the car with the baby boy and his parents was exiting a petrol station when it crashed with another vehicle.

"The baby, who was in his mother's lap in the rear passenger seat, was thrown out of the car onto a nearby grass verge.

"The baby suffered some swelling to the head, while the mother experienced back pain and the father was uninjured," he said in a statement here on Tuesday (June 2).

Halim said both victims were treated at Melaka Hospital before being allowed to return home.

He said police had identified the other vehicle involved in the incident and further investigations into the case were being carried out.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Those with information on the incident are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Ahmad Adhwa Jamal at 011-2690 5852. – Bernama
