Electrician electrocuted while installing power pole in Sandakan


SANDAKAN: A 30-year-old electrical contractor worker died after he was electrocuted while carrying out power pole installation works here on Saturday (Aug 22).

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the department received an emergency call at 7.53pm over the incident at Bandar Tabin Jaya.

He said the victim was still on top of the electricity pole when firefighters arrived at the scene at 8.03pm.

“The victim was believed to have suffered an electric shock while electrical pole installation works were being carried out.

“Firefighters carried out the rescue and brought the victim down using special equipment after Sabah Electricity personnel cut off the electricity supply to ensure the area was safe,” he said in a statement. 

Jimmy said the victim, identified as Jai, was handed over to Health Ministry personnel after he was brought down.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer.

The body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action and investigation.

Seven firefighters from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station were involved in the operation, together with personnel from Sabah Electricity, police and the Health Ministry.

The operation was brought under control at 9.26pm and ended at 9.40pm after the area was confirmed safe.
