Wake for Tun Ling opens to public on Monday

KUALA LUMPUR: The wake for former MCA president and transport minister Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik will be open to the public at Xiao En Centre in Cheras from Monday (April 6).

His widow, Toh Puan Ong Ee Nah, was seen at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, where she joined family members in making arrangements for the wake and funeral.

Dressed in a white blouse, she arrived at the lobby at about 2.15pm with their second son, Ling Hee Keat, who carried a framed family photograph of the late Tun. They were then escorted by staff to the upper floor, where the private wake is being held.

Sunday’s session was reserved for close family members and relatives, with only invited friends allowed to pay their respects in a quiet and private setting.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong arrived at 3.10pm, while secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon arrived at 3.50pm.

Also present were former MCA president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting and his wife Puan Sri Wendy Chong Siew Mei, who arrived at about 2.50pm.

Former Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) president Prof Tan Sri Dr Chuah Hean Teik, current UTAR president Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, UTAR council member Datuk Lim Si Cheng and UTAR Education Foundation Board of Trustees chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Sak Cheng Lum were likewise in attendance to pay their last respects and offer support to the family.

At about 5.40pm, former world No. 1 Malaysian badminton star Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei and his wife Datin Wong Mew Choo also arrived to pay their final respects.

The wake will be open for visiting from 12pm on Monday, and the public may pay their respects at Xiao En Centre from 12pm to 9pm on April 6 and 7.

The funeral service will be held at the centre on April 8, before the cortege leaves at 11am for cremation at the Xiao En Crematorium in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.

MCA’s sixth president, Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, passed away on Saturday at the age of 82.
