PETALING JAYA: MCA Youth has lodged a police report to call for an investigation into the alleged death threats made by several foreign nationals against local influencer Zarif Syarafuddin.
The wing said the threats were believed to be linked to Zarif’s efforts in highlighting undocumented migrant settlements, including concerns over the growing presence of Rohingya refugees and other suspicious activities in Puchong and other parts of Selangor.
“Death threats are not a form of intimidation that can be taken lightly.
“They are serious criminal offences that threaten an individual’s safety and, if left unchecked, can undermine public security and create fear within the community,” MCA Youth said in a statement Thursday (Aug 20).
The wing called on the authorities to conduct a full and immediate investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Immigration Act 1959/63, where applicable.
It added that necessary measures should also be taken to ensure Zarif’s safety as well as firm legal action against anyone found to be responsible.
It said the government cannot ignore the wider concerns raised by MCA Youth, Zarif and other community activists and influencers, including Awie Mbr, also known as Abang Koroy, over the presence of Rohingya refugees and undocumented migrants in Malaysia.
MCA Youth also urge the government to strengthen enforcement, address illegal settlements and ensure that those without legal status are dealt with according to local laws, including repatriation.
“It is the first responsibility of the government to safeguard the security, welfare and interests of Malaysians. This responsibility cannot be compromised,” it added in the statement.
