Five arrested in Johor over upside-down flag cases

JOHOR BARU: Five people have been arrested over cases involving displaying inverted Jalur Gemilang, says Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Hoo Chuan Huat.

He said police have received three reports involving such cases so far, from Iskandar Puteri, Kulai and Johor Baru.

“We have two people arrested each in connection with the cases in Kulai and Johor Baru South.

“Meanwhile, one person was arrested in Iskandar Puteri,” he said, adding that the suspects are aged 25 to 56.

DCP Hoo urged the public, including those employing foreign workers, to be careful when displaying the national flag.

“It is good that many want to show their love for the country, but it is important for them to be alert and ensure the national flag is displayed correctly.

“Business owners with foreign workers should also show them the right way to display our flags or, at the very least, have them send a photo of the flag to a local supervisor for checking,” he said.

It was earlier reported that a manufacturer had been ordered to immediately cease operations after it was found to have flown the Jalur Gemilang upside down.
