PETALING JAYA: Transport Minister Anthony Loke extended his condolences to the family of Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, Malaysia’s longest-serving Transport Minister, who passed away on Saturday (April 4).

Loke said Tun Ling devoted much of his life to building the nation’s transport infrastructure, including the development of Westport and the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP).

Westport, part of Port Klang along with Northport, has grown into one of the world’s busiest transhipment hubs, while PTP is also recognised as a leading global port, Loke noted in a Facebook message on Sunday.

He added that Tun Ling was instrumental in the establishment of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which continues to serve as the nation’s main aviation gateway.

Loke recalled visiting Tun Ling at his residence on Nov 4 last year to present him with a commemorative photograph of Westport to mark Port Klang’s achievement as one of the top 10 busiest ports in the world.

“Due to his health condition at the time, Tun Ling was unable to speak, but his expression and tears reflected a deep sense of pride in what had been built under his leadership.

“Despite our political differences, I have always held Tun Ling in high regard for his resilience and lasting contributions to Malaysia’s transportation system,” Loke said.
