PETALING JAYA: MCA has raised questions over the basis for treating some former Negri Sembilan assemblymen differently from others in the distribution of RM3.06mil in allocations following the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.
The issue concerned the management of public funds and confidence in the integrity of the state administration, rather than a political dispute, said Negri Sembilan MCA chairman Datuk Law Kok Chan.
He added that 17 Pakatan Harapan assemblymen allegedly received RM180,000 each for the July to September period, while 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen who were still part of the state government at the time allegedly did not receive the same allocation.
The allocation was approved during the Pakatan administration two days before the state assembly was dissolved on June 5.
Law, who is also MCA national organising secretary, said the difference in treatment raised questions over the criteria used to determine who qualified for the allocation.
He said this was particularly so as the mandates of all assemblymen ended with the dissolution of the state assembly.
"If the allocation was meant for assemblymen to carry out their duties from July to September, how could it continue to be used after the state assembly was dissolved?" he asked in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 19).
Law said Pakatan leaders should disclose the guidelines, procedures and legal basis governing the allocation, instead of simply saying it was made in accordance with established governance procedures.
"The people have the right to know the guidelines, procedures and legal basis that allowed public funds to be allocated under such circumstances," he said.
