Azam Baki reminds MACC officers, staff to uphold integrity

PUTRAJAYA: Officers and staff of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have been urged to uphold integrity, discipline and professionalism as they resume duties following the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the recently concluded Ramadan should serve as a foundation for stronger self-discipline, integrity and moral values among personnel.

“Ramadan was not merely about abstaining from food and drink, but a process of building discipline, strengthening self-control, reinforcing integrity and refining noble values. This is the true measure of our success,” he said in a message to staff, posted on the commission's official Facebook page on Tuesday (March 24).

He called on all officers to carry forward the spirit and lessons of Ramadan into their daily responsibilities, stressing that it was time to return with renewed energy, focus and commitment.

Azam also reminded personnel to practise a healthy and disciplined lifestyle while avoiding excess in all aspects, including comfort and complacency.

“The trust placed upon us is far greater than any temporary pleasure,” he said.

As members of the MACC, he stressed that officers must continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity in every action, noting that the responsibility entrusted to them was significant and closely watched by the public.

“The people expect us to carry out our duties with honesty, courage and professionalism,” he added.

Azam acknowledged that the commission would inevitably face criticism, negative perceptions and even slander, particularly from parties uncomfortable with strict enforcement of the law.

“There will always be those who attempt to spread false and baseless narratives, even when they are aware of the truth,” he said.

However, he stressed that the commission must remain steadfast in its principles and not be swayed from its responsibilities.

“We must stay firm in our principles and remain focused on our mission. Let our work, integrity and achievements speak louder than any accusation,” he said.

He urged all personnel to continue serving with sincerity, high discipline and unwavering commitment, emphasising that integrity remains the foundation of the commission, discipline its strength, and service to the rakyat its core duty.
