Mother’s boyfriend remanded over alleged harassment of 15-year-old girl


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 51-year-old man following allegations that he sexually harassed a 15-year-old girl, says Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus.

He Kuala Lumpur police chief said the victim was the sister of a 14-year-old student who died recently, and the suspect was the mother's boyfriend.

He added that the allegations were uncovered during investigations into the death of the 14-year-old girl.

“The victim in this case is the 15-year-old sister of the deceased. We have opened an investigation paper against the suspect under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017,” he said on Tuesday (Aug 25).

Comm Fadil said the suspect had been remanded for seven days until Aug 31 to facilitate investigations.

On Aug 18, the 14-year-old student died while receiving emergency treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, prompting police to initially classify the case as sudden death.

The following day, Wangsa Maju police received a report from the girl's mother alleging that bullying may have been involved in the death of the student from a secondary school in Setapak.

The case is being investigated under Section 507B of the Penal Code, which covers acts or communications that are threatening, insulting or abusive and are intended to cause emotional distress, fear or alarm.

Comm Fadil said police had so far recorded statements from about 90 individuals, including teachers, students, family members and other witnesses.

“Investigations are still ongoing, and the public is advised not to speculate in a manner that could disrupt the investigation,” he said.
