PETALING JAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has received royal praise for its strong performance in 2025.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim was briefed on the ministry's achievements throughout 2025 during an audience with minister Nga Kor Ming at Istana Negara on Wednesday (Feb 4).
Sultan Ibrahim congratulated the ministry on its achievements throughout the year, including international recognition and winning the National Development Award.
The King also consented to officiate at the World Firefighters’ Day celebration in Johor this May in conjunction with the golden jubilee of the Fire and Rescue Department’s unification under the Federal Government.
“This is a great honour for our firefighters and a strong motivation for them to continue serving the people and the nation,” Nga said in a statement, adding that more than 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the celebration.
Senior officials from the Fire and Rescue Department were present in the audience.
Meanwhile, Nga said the ministry delivered more than 511,000 affordable housing units nationwide last year, exceeding targets under the 12th Malaysia Plan, and completed 26,000 Rumah Mesra Rakyat homes.
He added that more than 1,300 sick and abandoned housing projects involving nearly 160,000 buyers were successfully revived, including the long-stalled 2,400-unit Residensi Hektar Gombak project.
The ministry also rebuilt and handed over 18 homes affected by the Putra Heights gas explosion within six months, introduced five Madani housing reforms to eliminate stalled projects by 2030, and set up 100 community spaces in public housing areas.
Nearly 1,900 dilapidated homes were repaired under the Urban Poverty Eradication Programme, 216 Madani recreational parks were developed nationwide, and more than 3,600 illegal dumpsites were closed across the country.
Malaysia was also elected President of the UN-Habitat Assembly last year.
Nga thanked the King for the recognition, saying the ministry would continue focusing on delivering results for the people.
