Anwar receives royal honour from Brunei Sultan


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was conferred the Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama Yang Amat Dihormati (D.K.) by the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

The award carries the title Dato Laila Utama.

The investiture ceremony was held on Saturday (Aug 22) during a meeting at Cheradi Laila Kenchana, Istana Nurul Iman, here.

The Crown Prince of Brunei, Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah, witnessed the ceremony.

Also present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani; Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg; and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Earlier, Anwar and the Malaysian delegation arrived at Istana Nurul Iman at about 11 am.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Anwar are also expected to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on disaster management cooperation.

Anwar arrived here on Friday for a two-day working visit to attend the 27th Annual Leaders' Consultation (ALC-27) between Malaysia and Brunei. – Bernama
