KUALA LUMPUR: Five main roads around Kajang will be closed in stages from Wednesday (Aug 26) before fully closing on Aug 30 in conjunction with the 2026 Selangor Merdeka eve celebrations at Kajang Stadium.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the road closures are to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety throughout the programme scheduled for Aug 30.
He said Jalan Mahkamah would be fully closed from Aug 26 to 30, while four other roads – Jalan Cempaka Putih, Jalan Cempaka Kuning, Jalan Stadium and Jalan Cheras – would be closed in stages.
"The staged closures for the rehearsals will be from 8.30am to 10.30am and 7pm to 10pm on Aug 28, as well as from 7pm to 10pm on Aug 29.
"All the roads involved will then be fully closed on the main day of the celebration, Aug 30, from 8am until the event ends," he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 24).
Naazron advised the public to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion around the celebration venue.
He said motorists were also urged to comply with instructions and guidelines given by police officers and personnel deployed at the scene.
To facilitate visitors, the organisers have also provided several designated parking areas around the celebration venue.
Visitors are also advised to use shuttle bus services provided from several major rail stations, including Sungai Jernih Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station, Bukit Dukung MRT, Jalan Bukit MRT, Jalan Reko Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Kajang 2 LRT.
Meanwhile, he said medical personnel and ambulances from Kajang Hospital, St John Ambulance, Kajang Plaza Medical Centre and the Armed Forces would be stationed at strategic locations to respond to any emergencies.
Members of the public with traffic-related enquiries or complaints can contact the Kajang police headquarters at 03-8911 4222. – Bernama
