PUTRAJAYA: From affordable homes and better drainage to cleaner public spaces and more sustainable waste management, the Housing and Local Government Ministry wants the upcoming Budget 2027 to deliver realistic improvements that benefit Malaysians in their daily lives.
With the Budget set to be tabled in Parliament on Oct 10, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the ministry sought the views of 350 stakeholders from various sectors to ensure its proposed initiatives addressed the people's real needs.
He said the ministry would ensure that the people's views were not merely heard but translated into concrete action and tangible outcomes.
"This annual session is an important platform for the ministry to obtain new ideas and sound proposals from stakeholders so that every initiative formulated truly meets the needs of the people.
"The ministry is committed to examining every view and proposal put forward as important input in preparing for initiatives under Budget 2027 and ensuring every ringgit allocated provide tangible outcomes that benefit the people," he said following a town hall meeting recently.
He said the engagement was also aimed at ensuring the ministry's plans reflected the aspirations of the Madani government.
"The well-being of the people is the main focus of the Madani government. The ministry will continue to improve public infrastructure, including markets, food courts, drainage systems, affordable housing, Taman Madani and other facilities to improve the quality of life of the people," he said.
Nga said the ministry in collaboration with local authorities has completed 15,832 public facility projects to date including 217 Taman Madani nationwide.
He added that the ministry was also committed to intensifying sustainable, environmentally friendly development and promoting the circular economy next year.
The discussions focused on areas with a direct impact on people's daily lives including comfortable and affordable housing, sustainable solid waste management, sustainable urban and community development, disaster management and strengthening local government service delivery.
In formulating its Budget 2027 proposals, the ministry would also take into account the three pillars of the Madani Economy, namely raising the nation's economic ceiling through strategic investments in high-value and technology sectors, raising the floor of people's well-being through education, healthcare and social protection and driving reforms in governance and efficient and transparent public service delivery.
The town hall involved representatives from government agencies, professional bodies, financial institutions, housing developers, the private sector, non-governmental organisations, community associations and institutions of higher learning.
Nga said the diversity of participants would enable the ministry to gain a more comprehensive perspective in formulating practical, inclusive and high-impact Budget 2027 proposals.
