PETALING JAYA: Police have recorded the statements of businessman Albert Tei’s family members over allegations that a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer pointed a firearm at him and his wife during a raid on his home last month, says his legal counsel.
Lawyer Mahajoth Singh said Tei’s wife, mother-in-law, and domestic helper, were questioned on Tuesday (Dec 16) in the ongoing investigation into the Nov 28 raid at his Puchong residence.
He said that the police statement regarding the incident was premature as it was issued before statements were recorded from key eyewitnesses.
“Those witnesses, including my client’s wife, mother-in-law and domestic helper, only had their statements recorded yesterday.
“Any assertion that there is ‘no evidence to support the allegation’, made before examining all material witnesses, was therefore premature and unjustified,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 17).
Mahajoth said police officers also showed still images extracted from body-worn cameras used by MACC officers in the raid during the questioning session yesterday.
“This is a critical confirmation; body-worn camera footage exists,” he added.
He also requested that equipment and footage seized from the residence be returned once authorities have completed their probe.
On Monday (Dec 15), Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said police had yet to find evidence substantiating claims that an MACC officer allegedly threatened Tei with a firearm during an arrest last month.
Comm Shazeli cited initial findings by the police after investigators recorded statements from all MACC officers involved in the operation.
He said the police had also obtained CCTV footage from the residence, as well as mobile phone recordings, which have been handed over to the forensic unit for further examination and analysis.
