Albert Tei hopes cops will resolve probe swiftly

PETALING JAYA: Businessman Albert Tei hopes the police will be able to complete investigations soon into allegations that a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer pointed a firearm at him and his wife during a raid on his home last month.

In a statement on Tuesday (Dec 16), Tei said police investigators had visited his residence in Puchong twice within a week to record statements, take photographs, and conduct a re-enactment of the incident that allegedly took place at 10am on Nov 28.

"I have provided the police with a detailed and clear account of the circumstances when several MACC officers wearing balaclava masks allegedly pointed a firearm at me and my wife," he said.

Tei also said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage seized during the raid was crucial evidence in the case, adding that he had handed over the relevant login credentials to investigators for them to review the recordings.

"Accordingly, I would like to ask the police who have viewed the CCTV footage... whether or not the recordings are sufficient to substantiate my allegations," he added.

Tei urged the authorities to make the CCTV footage public so that justice can be served.

Tei also said that police investigators will go to his home for the third time at 4pm on Tuesday to meet family members present during the MACC raid, for clarification of certain matters.

"I hope the police can conclude this investigation promptly and ensure that justice for my family is upheld," he said.

On Monday (Dec 15), Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said police had yet to find evidence substantiating claims that an MACC officer allegedly threatened Tei with a firearm during an arrest last month.

Comm Shazeli cited initial findings by the police after investigators recorded statements from all MACC officers involved in the operation.

He said the police had also obtained CCTV footage from the residence, as well as mobile phone recordings, which have been handed over to the forensic unit for further examination and analysis.
