CRSM warns of diaper, power bank shortages at flood relief centres

PETALING JAYA: The Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) has warned of acute shortages of adult and infant diapers and power banks at several temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in the northern flood-hit states.

CRSM Search and Rescue team leader Soo Wee Chuan, who is currently on the ground, said supplies of ready-to-eat food and drinking water remain sufficient, but two essential items are now running dangerously low.

"Firstly, many PPS centres lack infant and adult diapers, which has caused significant inconvenience and hygiene issues for infants, immobile elderly persons, and flood victims with special needs," he said in a statement today (Nov 28).

Power banks are also urgently required to help evacuees keep their mobile phones charged so they can receive updates, contact family members and stay informed, Soo added, stressing it was crucial for their emotional and mental wellbeing.

CRSM also urged the public to stay alert as Tropical Storm Senyar moves into the Strait of Melaka, bringing the risk of prolonged heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

To meet the changing needs for relief supplies and the challenges of upcoming weather conditions, CRSM is seeking wider support through its GoCare crowdfunding platform at https://gocare.org.my/.

The public is encouraged to donate cash or provide contributions in-kind based on the latest requirements, especially power banks and infant/adult diapers.

Additionally, CRSM will collaborate with corporate partners to organise charity sales, with all proceeds channelled into the disaster relief fund. Logistics companies are also invited to assist with transportation to ensure supplies reach affected areas efficiently.

CRSM calls on businesses, organisations, and the public to donate generously, focusing support on essential items such as power banks and infant/adult diapers, to ensure that flood victims’ basic living needs and communication access remain uninterrupted.
