Hot weather: 17 areas under Level 1 status, says MetMalaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issued a Level 1 (caution category) hot weather status for 17 areas across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said 11 of the affected areas are in Peninsular Malaysia, involving Larut and Matang, Kuala Kangsar, Kampar and Batang Padang in Perak; Kuala Krai in Kelantan; Kuantan, Raub, Temerloh and Pekan in Pahang; as well as Hulu Selangor and Gombak in Selangor.

Five areas in Sabah placed under the same status are Telupid, Tenom, Sandakan, Pitas and Beluran, while Marudi is the only affected area in Sarawak.

MetMalaysia said the Level 1 hot weather alert is issued when the maximum daily temperature in an area reaches between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
